You could be supporting the engineering and delivery of voice & data services, helping constantly monitor the entire network, from mobile to fixed, and even the thousands of miles of deep-sea cable to detect any issues. Our 2 year level 4 Network Engineer Level 4 Apprenticeship combines online learning, classroom training and on-the-job experience to develop real world skills using cutting edge technology. Whether you’re fresh out of an IT education or you’re already employed in the tech sector looking to take a step up, it’s a perfect fit for you.

In this programme, you’ll cover things such as Microsoft Windows Server 2012, how to use Microsoft Windows 7/8.1 and other client operating systems, Cloud technologies, how to work with mobility solutions like Microsoft Intune and how to secure devices and networks. On successful completion of the programme, you will gain a te following formal qualification :

Part 1 – Advanced Modern Apprenticeship

SQA SCQF 6 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunications Professional

Microsoft IT Security Fundamentals (No exam)

Part 2 – Technical Modern Apprenticeship

SQA SCQF 8 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunications Professional

Your Network Engineer Role

Your role as a Network Engineer Apprentice will be a fundamental position within the wider Technology team, helping us implement our vision of the digital future. Network Engineers design, install, maintain and support communication networks within an organisation to maintain high levels of operation in order to provide maximum performance and availability for their users. They will understand network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitoring tools, and be able to give technical advice and guidance. Working within an agile environment with networking engineering experts on select Vodafone Business accounts, your responsibilities could entail…

o Early-life support of new solutions and customer on-boarding activities

o Planning, assessment and implementation of complex change requests 

o Work with Operational Efficiency manager to identify and address root cause of high volume incidents. 

o Work with Vodafone technology services to identify and run efficient value add management and monitoring solutions for customers.  

o Support customers through the timely resolution of incidents working to agreed service levels. 

o Understanding of network management

Copper Cable Networks

Fibre Optic Networks

Digital Microwave Radio Systems

High-bit-rate digital subscriber line (HDSL)

Symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL)

What are we looking for?

Age 16-24

Passionate about a career in IT

Five Standard grades (Level 1-3) or five National 5s or intermediate 2s Level C or above (including Maths and English)

Be eligible to work in the UK and will not be in full-time education by September 2019

Have lived in the UK and/or EU for 3 years prior to September 2019

Ideally a Level 3 qualification in an IT-related subject

Excellent communication skills

Demonstrate creativity, resilience and adaptability

Curiosity and passion for technology, how things work and the future of digital

Keen interest in Network Engineering; preference for demonstrable relatable experience of playing/ experimenting with Network projects or wider technology
